Walking on Clouds in Panama

What do I want to do for the rest of my life? More than two years ago, this question gave me the decisive impulse to fundamentally change my life. However, this decision alone was not the end of the story for me. The “danger” of finding myself in the rat race I was trying to escape from was still lurking. I became aware that if I really wanted to change my life, I had to leave my previous path.

In February 2023, I returned home after 6 months travelling in Northern Europe and Central America. Among other things, my bank balance had persuaded me to do so. I had spent my savings on travelling, on quenching my thirst for adventure. For me, it meant finding work and earning money. The nomadic life had captivated me, and I wanted to keep travelling. Every journey ends at some point and I needed funds for a new one.

Fortunately, I quickly found a temporary job. I realised how much I had missed working in a team again and doing mental work. My grey matter was used differently when planning my travel routes than when solving a variety of administrative tasks. I soaked up everything new at work and enjoyed the challenges that office work brought with it. After a few months, however, I noticed that I was getting into an unpopular routine. This was less due to the job or the tasks than to my adventurous nature. I found out that I enjoyed the work I was doing and at the same time I longed to be on the road again. I was in a dilemma, and I asked myself: How can I do my job and satisfy my hunger for travelling simultaneously?

I kept asking myself how I could combine my passion for travelling with my job. When those around me asked about my plans, I replied that I not only wanted to travel, but also work online during my adventures. Even with my temporary employer, I carefully explored whether the conditions were right for working remotely. My persistence paid off and eventually I was able to extend my employment under my desired conditions: working flexible in terms of time and location.

Shortly afterwards, a good friend also contacted me. He was interested in working with me and asked me for support. He is the founder of the start-up Consolitech Switzerland AG. The start-up’s vision is to enable its customers to achieve financial well-being through a holistic approach. And it does this through a sophisticated platform and customised services. I was immediately enthusiastic about the collaboration and was given the opportunity to work from anywhere.

These professional arrangements give me the freedom I’ve always been looking for. I can do my job, earn money and live out my passion for travelling at the same time. And that’s how I manage to bridge the gap between work and adventure. More than two years ago, my goal was to travel and be on the road more. Thanks to my conscious decisions and actions, I am once again at this point: this time in Nicaragua.

In one of my next posts, I’ll tell you what’s next for me professionally, nomadically and adventurously. I look forward to telling you more about my projects here in Nicaragua. Thank you for joining my journey, see you soon!
